Finalists and eventual winners of the Billboard Latin Music Awards were determined by radio and sales chart performance and social and streaming activity as chronicled in Billboard magazine, billboard.com and billboard.biz during the eligibility period of February 5, 2011 through January 28, 2012.

 

Billboard’s charts are the world’s most authoritative music rankings with award categories based on album and digital track sales data provided by Nielsen SoundScan, monitored radio airplay and streaming data measured by Nielsen BDS, and social media consumption gauged by Next Big Sound.

 

Also presented on the show are Billboard’s prestigious discretionary awards including Spirit of Hope for humanitarian contributions, the Lifetime Achievement awards and Hall of Fame. The Billboard Latin Music Awards are produced and televised LIVE on Telemundo on April 26, 2012.

Telemundo buys TV rights to FIFA World Cup soccer

The new deals take effect in 2015 and run to 2022. The pacts include rights to two World Cup men’s finals in 2018 and 2022 and two World Cup women’s finals in 2015 and 2019.

The Fox network and the Spanish-language Telemundo network have scored future U.S. television rights to FIFA’s World Cup soccer from longtime incumbents ESPN and Univision.

 

The new deals take effect in 2015 — after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil — and run to 2022. The pacts include rights to two World Cup men’s finals in 2018 and 2022 and two World Cup women’s finals in 2015 and 2019.

Telemundo buys the FIFA’s World Cup rights from Fox

Although terms of the two agreements were not disclosed, people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to speak publicly said that News Corp.’s Fox paid $425 million for its package while Telemundo, owned by Comcast, shelled out about $600 million for its rights.

Those figures represent a hefty increase from the $100 million that ESPN was paying and the $325 million that Univision had paid for its current soccer contracts.

“We made a disciplined bid that would have been both valuable to FIFA and profitable for our company,” ESPN said in a statement Friday.

Univision, which has held rights to World Cup soccer since 1978, said in a statement that it remained “committed to prudently evaluating content investments.”

For Telemundo, which has long trailed Univision in ratings, getting the World Cup is a coup. It will give the network a huge platform to promote the rest of its programming to the growing Latino audience in the United States.

“This landmark deal for Telemundo represents perhaps the greatest milestone in its history,” said Lauren Zalaznick, chairman of NBCUniversal Entertainment & Digital Networks, who has oversight of the Spanish-language network.

In Wonderland: The Surrealist Adventures of Women Artist in Mexico and the Unites States

LACMA’s latest, featuring about 175 works by 47 artists, including Frida Kahlo, Lee Miller, Remedios Varo, Leonora Carringt

After seeing publicity all over Los Angeles — banners, posters, etc. — for the latest special exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, better known as LACMA, called “In Wonderland: The Surrealist Adventures of Women Artist in Mexico and the Unites States,” I excitedly looked forward to checking it out this past weekend, especially when I found out seven of the Frida Kahlo pieces, of whom I am a huge fanatic of, are being feautured.

It also features works by other of my favorites like Remedios Varo and Rosa Rolanda.

Let me begin by telling you that the three hours I spent contemplating the entire exhibition were totally worth it. Not only did I get a sense and felt the emotions of each of the artist, but I also got a closer look at their work and I also discovered several other artists that I didn’t know about before walking in there.

It is interesting to see how each and one of the artist being featured depicted their life struggles in a canvas by chasing their dreams in good and bad situations through their surrealism. While there, I found out from a women art lover who was visiting from New York, that this is the first exhibit to show North American women surrealists, so as an Angelino, I feel very lucky to have it here in LA.

The color, the message, their ability to depict such emotion is just so amazing when you have the art piece in front of you, in the case of Frida Kahlo I couldn’t stop staring at the “Two Fridas” or “Las Dos Fridas” which is one of my favorites of Kahlo, I think I spent a half an hour on this one, the first time I ever saw it. Frida painted this huge oil on canvas huge piece, (68″ 1/4 x 68″) shortly after her divorce from painter and muralist Diego Rivera.

I know that in her diary, Frida wrote that this particular painting originated from her memory of an imaginary childhood friend, but then later she confirmed it records the emotions surrounding her separation and her life while married with Diego Rivera. With that being said I can’t tell you more of this exhibition because I encourage you to check it out.

The exhibition includes works dating from 1931 to 1968, it shows the excellent works of 47 female surrealist all depicted in a total of 147 works which you will absolutely love and don’t worry about the price of admission because again it is totally worth it. The exhibit will be open to the public through May 6.
